As a Virtual Assistant, I do a wide variety of tasks on a day-to-day basis. Hardly ever are two days alike in my duties. This past week I had a stark reminder about the importance of staying flexible in my schedule and my life.
We recently purchased a home and moved in this past Monday. It was a hectic time. We had planned to make 2 or 3 trips with a 20′ UHaul truck in addition to loading our personal truck over the course of Monday and Tuesday. Life, however, had other plans.
As Monday came to a close we had 1 trip done and were quickly realizing it was going to take much more time than we had allocated. This forced me to make some quick life and business adaptions to make everything work out. In the end, we got everything in the house by Wednesday night but it was hard, hard work.
After a wild week, I would like to remind everyone of some of the benefits of remaining limber and flexible in your day-to-day life:
- Adaptability: Flexibility allows you to adapt to unexpected changes or challenges more easily. Life is unpredictable, and being flexible enables you to adjust your plans or expectations without feeling overwhelmed.
- Reduced Stress: Remaining flexible can reduce stress by preventing frustration and anxiety when things don’t go as you’d planned. Instead of resisting change, flexibility encourages a more accepting and adaptable mindset.
- Improved Problem Solving: When faced with obstacles, a malleable mindset allows you to explore alternative solutions and consider different perspectives, increasing the likelihood of finding effective solutions, especially on the move.
- Increased Resilience: Instead of being rigid and resistant to change, a flexible mindset helps you bounce back from setbacks more quickly and with greater emotional strength.
As the saying goes “When life gets tough, the tough get going.” Work on your ability to improvise, adapt, and overcome obstacles even when things seem bleak – you will love how you feel after you accomplish something you thought impossible!
